Will Smith donates $100k for Independence Day fireworks in New Orleans!

Actor Will Smith made the 4th of July celebrations more special for the residents of New Orleans by donating $100k for the fireworks at the riverfront.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell (D) showed gratitude to Will Smith for his lovely gift on the occasion of USA’s 245th Independence Day. The Mayor had stated on Friday, “Go 4th on the River” returning with the help of Will Smith, who is currently in New Orleans for the shoot of his upcoming film “Emancipation”, and his production company Westbrook.

Cantrell said, “The gift of city fireworks was made possible by actor and producer Will Smith, along with his company Westbrook, who is in production on the feature film ‘Emancipation’ here in New Orleans.” The Mayor added, “The City also wishes to acknowledge the support of the Riverfront Marketing Group for helping to make the event happen.”

The event started at 9pm on Sunday with Police, fire and emergency medical services present for the event, particularly in the French Quarter.

The mesmerized residents thanked the actor for his kind donation. A resident who witnessed and enjoyed the firework at riverfront said, “We were excited to hear they were back on. We’re thankful Will Smith did that.”

One of fan wrote on Twitter, “Big ups to #WillSmith for saving #IndependenceDay once again! He paid to ensure #NewOrleans had #fireworks on this 4th of July!  #2021”

Another resident shared a clip of fireworks in New Orleans on Twitter, which was made possible by Will Smith. The tweet read, “Happy independence day – NOLA style Smiling face with sunglasses huge shout out to Will Smith(who is in Louisiana filming a movie) for donating the fireworks, since the city didn’t have a chance to finance it this year, you a real one.”

Will Smith’s kind act certainly lit the faces of people of New Orleans as the fireworks event for the Independence Day 2021 were almost cancelled again. Last year, due to COVID-19 pandemic, the celebrations of 4th of July were halted. However, this year, while others were all set celebrating the occasion with traditional fireworks, New Orleans had planned to cancel the “Go 4th on the River” event due to financial issues.
